Where the data comes from: matches, statistics, odds and how often they update

Over a thousand competitions, match and referee statistics, odds from 14 bookmakers with pre-kick-off snapshots. What exactly is collected, with what delay, and where the data has known gaps.

Published September 7, 2026TheAnalytic

Everything the site shows — from the score in the match table to CLV in the verifier — is computed from a single dataset. This page describes what it contains, where it comes from and where its limits are. Knowing the limits matters more than knowing the volumes: a figure computed from an incomplete sample looks just as confident as one computed from a full one.

Matches and competitions

Fixtures, scores and match statuses come from a licensed sports data provider and cover more than a thousand competitions: national leagues and cups, European competitions, national teams, youth and women’s leagues. On a normal match day the database holds over a thousand matches. For each one we store line-ups, events (goals, cards, substitutions) and post-match statistics: shots, possession, corners, fouls, offsides, and expected goals (xG) where the provider computes them.

A known gap: not every match has full statistics. Top leagues almost always get them, lower divisions and some cups only partly or not at all. So every calculation that needs statistics (corners, cards, fouls) uses only matches whose statistics are flagged as complete; a match with “zero cards” because the data is missing does not enter the sample.

Referees

A referee is attached to a match where the provider reports one; cards, penalties and fouls accumulate per match. A referee page is built only from matches with full statistics, and for referees with few such matches the figures are deliberately not presented as statistics.

Odds

Odds are collected from 14 bookmakers on the main markets: match result, totals, handicaps, both teams to score, corners, cards. For each market we keep the opening price, the current price and snapshots at 75, 60, 30 and 15 minutes before kick-off — line movement on the match page and dropping-odds detection are built from them. Once the match starts, the pre-match line is frozen as the closing line; in-play odds are not collected and do not affect any figures. What the opening and closing lines are and why they matter is explained in the article on the line.

The verifier’s reference line is Pinnacle. If the bookmaker chosen by an author has no price at the moment of publication, the pick is not accepted: the server cannot lock what does not exist.

Update frequency

  • Fixtures and line-ups: several times a day, line-ups again an hour before the match.
  • Scores and events of matches in progress: every few minutes.
  • Odds: as they change, most often every few minutes on match day.
  • Post-match statistics: within a few hours of the final whistle; until then the match is shown as finished without detailed statistics.

Time zones

Match times are stored in UTC and displayed in the visitor’s time zone, which can be changed in the header. The date “today” in the match table is also computed in the chosen zone: a match at 01:00 Moscow time is still “yesterday” in London.

What the service does not do

TheAnalytic does not accept bets and is not a bookmaker. Odds are shown for reference, as published by the respective bookmakers, and may differ from those available in a particular country. All studies on the site, for example on home advantage, are computed from the dataset described here, and every table states the period and the number of matches it is built from.
